who am I?
Hi. My name is Christopher M Williams.
A long time ago (1998) I decided to make a career change to programming and I've been doing it since. I started doing HTML work then and much to dismay I found out that I am not a designer. I started to look at web programming (ASP and ColdFusion) and much to my pleasure learned that I really enjoyed doing web programming. I started buying as many books as I could, spending numerous hours on programming websites, and taught myself everthing. Even today all my knowledge is self-taught. When the industry took a downturn for the worst in 2000, I found myself doing freelance work. I continued working for myself as freelance programmer for about two years. My wife and I at that point decided to move from Atlanta (my hometown) to Providence, RI for something new. There I found a position working as a .NET web programmer with a small company in the healthcare benefits market. I spent close to two years with the company creating enterprise web applications with .NET/VB.NET and SQL Server. In Janurary 2005, I accepted a position with a company near Boston. In this role I am using C# and SQL Server to create web applications to help banks and ISOs manage their ATMs.
I also provide my programming services on a freelance basis to design houses and individuals. I'm pretty picky about the projects I take on. I also make sure I have the actual time for it and that it doesn't conflict with my day job.
So far I have taught myself ASP.NET/C# and VB.NET, ASP/VBScript, PHP, Java, ColdFusion, Javascript, SQL Server and numerous other languages and products. I'm also experienced in System Administration with Windows Server especially as it relates to Web Hosting and Database Servers.
In general, I guess I am a geek I enjoy using technology and applying it to real world problems.
